Project Description

 

This study entailed the preparation of a detailed Urbanization and Land-Use Master Plan for the City of Douala, the economic capital of the Cameroon with one of the leading African ports on the Atlantic, covering a gross area exceeding 210 sq Km with an estimated population of around 1.5 million inhabitants.

The main components of the study included the following:

  • Revising, assessing and updating the existing Master Plan for the City that was developed in 1983.
  • Development of a detailed Strategic Land-Use Master Plan to guide the urbanization of the City up to the year 2025 and ensuring the integration of the rapidly expanding Port of Douala and its Free Zones.
  • Elaboration of Detailed Local Development Plans for each of the five Urban Sectors constituting the City.
  • Revising, assessing and updating existing systems of Urban Statutory Controls Rules and Regulations in order to ensure optimal implementation of the proposed Master Plan and the upgrading of the urban fabric.
  • Detailing of action plans and implementation programs in order to ensure an orderly and coherent execution of the Master Plan.
  • Formulation of a Capital Investments Strategy and Program requisite for the implementation of the proposed action plans.

 

Consultancy Services

 

Field investigations, demographic analysis and traffic studies, topographic investigations, appraisal of urban amenities and infrastructures, strategic and detailed Master Planning and preparation of action plans and financial programs.
