Project Description
This project is part of a project to extend the trans-European transport network to all countries in the Mediterranean basin. It aims to promote the economic integration of Mediterranean partners through an efficient inter-modal freight transport system. The aim is to link transport systems in EU countries with those of southern and eastern Mediterranean countries.
The European transport network "Motorways of the Sea", based on the concept of an integral logistics chain from hub to hub, will link the main economic basins situated around the Mediterranean. The aim is to achieve efficient intermodal integration of sea, rail, river and road links.
The project, which has a strong organizational and institutional bias, will allow two pilot MoS (Motorways of the Sea) corridors to be identified and their feasibility validated and two vertical consortia to be set up. The consortium will be responsible for operating the MoS after implementing a suitable investment programme as part of a PPP (Public and Private Partnership) - type business plan supported by the European Union.
