The palm shaped island is expected to contribute to the city\'s position as a tourist destination and will include 120 kilometers of sandy beaches, 2000 villas, 40 hotels and the Middle East\'s first Marine Park. Due to its immense scale and unique shape the island will be visible from space!
The project is involving both the Dubai and Beirut offices with completion expected in late 2003 and its main features are as follows:
- 22 residential buildings of 12 floors each and 2 basements for parking. Each building consists of 130 apartments of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms as well as 2 penthouses on the top floor. The gross area of each building is in excess of 35,800 sq. meters.
- 5 Club Houses centering individual clusters of residential buildings and containing restaurants, cafes, gyms, swimming pools, special events rooms, internet cafes, etc.
Construction of Palm Island started in 2001, with earth works expected to take two years to be completely raised from the sea and a further 2/3 years required completing the infrastructure and buildings. The island will be accessible by 300 meter bridges from the mainland or boat to two marinas, while the main causeway will have a Monorail system.
