Project Description
The project is a new 40 Hectare container terminal proposed to be constructed on the north side of Aden Inner Harbour, adjacent to Caltex Island. It is part of the Aden Free Zone Development Project which is intended to take advantage of the pivotal location of Aden on world shipping routes to develop a major commercial zone facility and container transshipment terminal.
The site of the new terminal is located to the south and south east of Caltex Island, with Caltex Island forming its northern boundary. The Phase I development is to the eastern end of the development and comprises dredging and backfilling 700m of deep water quay, with two subsequent phases planned westward to give a total of 1,700m of quay.
The container terminal is anticipated to handle almost exclusively transshipment traffic. The first phase of the container terminal is to handle 500,000 TEU per year, with later phases increasing this total up to 1,500,000 TEU per year.
Consultancy Services
Design services for the main elements of the project which included:
• Container Terminal: - 700m Quay wall and other marine structures. - 4 Ship to Shore Gantry Cranes (QCs) expandable to 6 - Rubber Tyred Gantries (RTGs) - Container Stack Areas
• Site Works: - Roads: Arterial Causeway (3kms), Collector Roads, Truck and Car Parking and Terminal Paved Areas. - Storm Drainage System: Composite surface drainage and pipe system. - Sewerage System: Sewage collection and sewage treatment and effluent disposal. |
